Originating from the 14th Century English word "Gernet" meaning "Deep Red", Garnets actually exist in a number of different colours and hues.

The mineral composition of the stone determines its colour. 

Iron: Red

Chromium: Green

Vanadium: Blue

These minerals are combined with others such an Aluminium, Calcium or Magnesium to create varying shades of these colours.

Jewellery containing garnets is said to be associated with prosperity, energy and passion and are the stone linked to 2nd anniversaries and January birthdays.
